The South Sefton Diabetes Group was established as a local self help group affiliated with Diabetes UK, in June 1999 to provide information for people and families with diabetes in the South Sefton area of Liverpool, in the UK. It was established to help them to manage their diabetes and lead a normal active life. The S.S.D.G. web site was established in late 1999 to help provide the same information to anyone connected to the internet.

Diabetes is one of few conditions where an understanding of the condition together with constant self monitoring are the keys to good control. The S.S.D.G. doesn't provide all the answers but by bringing together information, from our meetings; Diabetes UK and other sources, it is hoped that people & families will have a better understanding and insight into diabetes - enabling them to better able to control & manage their diabetes, reducing the risk of complications and to lead a normal life.

We have meeting on the second Tuesday of every month (except August), where people can come and get support, or simply listen to our guest speaker and learn something new. The meetings start at about 7:15, and generally finish at 8:40. The meetings are held at The May Logan Center on Knowsley Road Bootle.

How are we funded

Although the S.S.D.G. is a local support group for Diabetes UK, the group and it's site are run independent from Diabetes UK. At the moment, the site does not have any form of funding, and is run using free services, and is independent of any medical, pharmaceutical and charitable organisation (other than Diabetes UK). The group is funded solely by donations from people and companies, but it is independent of any medical, pharmaceutical or charitable organisation (other than Diabetes UK). This site is managed by:
